What is the main danger which requires a helmet?
Your height is 5ft 10 🤔 the board is 5ft 6 and looks the same height as you, but anyway a good review.
nice to see you assembling it all in the video too.
Such a sick combo!
mayhem fins on it :) classic
Will, change your wax. Change your wax Will.
groms got good board knowledge
Like his reviews!
Thank you, we will be having him in more for sure!
Nice!
What size are boards in this video?
Awesome Matt..couple of questions..I have the same board and set up but with the HA980..would DW be doable with this front wing? And what number was the mast position in the tracks..thanks
Killer. Yes you can DW with that HA980. I use the 980 and the 1080 most often when on the FD and they both feel good for DW. I prefer the 1080 for DW as you can get a little more glide and connect the bumps a bit better, but you can just squeeze the trigger if you fall off the back of a swell so no stress. I have found that the 220 Glide tail has been pairing great with these two front wings for FD. I ride the mast at 6.5.
what's the difference this and the woverine?
I have had 10m e 7m NVision from 11m and 8m standard allround kite... feels power like 1-2 size bigger and responsiveness is nuts!
Thanks Matt
What size u reccomend for 6’ 200lb /91kg 54yo that wants to surf near shore waves, surf offshore reefs, and downwind. Pumping goals in surf would be to stay on foil to pump to next wave behind and maybe the next one. Been foiling since 2018, Armstrong gear since January ‘23…. Rule out winging, just surf, commute to outer reefs, and downwind. Thank you Nuzzo.
You can ride the 75 or 85 L midlength. The 85 L would be a bit easier to start and get things figured out but I think 75L would be the right call for long term.
Thank you..!
Hello Matt, What is the length of the Foil Driver motor cord ? 20 cm ? 25 ?
20cm. On the performance mast it is slightly shorter as there is a radius at the back of the mast
Love this Weiger, the history of the boards and organic growth and construction methods. I will definitely consider one of the boards in the future. We still don’t see many in the North of the UK but fancy a Appleslice as my next wing board for sure.
I think 7 of us ordered the 60L AppleSlice V3 here in Australia after trying it, amazing all round shape and primo construction
Andy, we do ship internationally, let us know if you're ever interested in ordering one!
When would you use the glide 220 over surf 205, with ha 1180 v2 or APF 1350 for Dw? Compared to when you used glide 220 for lw winging?
The 205 rolls better on the big wide spans foils so it is a bit better for turning. The 220 is more effect but a bit more locked in. For going straight in light air, I think that the 220 has better light wind lift and speed. I ride the 205 blue shim and the 220 no shim.
Wanting a wave catcher with performance I’ve tried various thunderbolt models, Tolhurst Mid 6 at 7’ and 7’6”, the Machado Sunday at 7’3” and Mashup at 6’6”. Being 5’7” and 176 pounds all of them have disappointed due to there being no options on the thicknesses. They were all super thick and super corky. The 7’ Mid 6 had some moments but they didn’t justify the investment. This thing looks even bulkier. If I was Rob Machado or 200 pound maybe a different story.
How is your connection going with the Armstrong board? Thx!
No connection issues with the midlength 55L and gen 2 foil drive. Not using the antenna either. If I run the board under water for 3 -5 seconds it will disconnect but that is pretty rare. Haven’t had any issues getting started. Loving this shape form the e foil drive too. Super efficient take offs.
Thank you for the insigts realy apprecheated. ❤ What kind of foam is this where can i get it??? Lg Roland
Yeah! Love Appletree due to the super strong construction, the awesome colors and the lovely people 🤙🏾🤩
I would have thought this board would work well as a 2+1 with MR fins?
what wave is that on 10,26 minutes in the video? and the board?
That was a random sandbar during a hurricane swell on Cape Hatteras, he is riding the AJW OG Potato Launcher. That wave is mental!!
I want one of these real bad
Great video, what was the wing Josh was riding?
CODE 1130S
At 90 kgs i went for the 80 v3 works great - awesome with AFS pure HA800 foil
Compare to Armstrong? exact same dimensions.. i have the 80 new Armstrong and I am just curious.. Thanks.
what is the weigth and heigth of this guy? he things 18/3,4 is wide; uauu
Brett is 5'9" and around 160-165 lbs. He is almost always on high performance boards in the 18 1/2" range, so to him that is a bit wide 😆
Can you use the drifter surf boards in a static water ( no waves)? Or is that only kite boarding
Anyone buy this board way smaller than recommended? I'm looking at picking up a 5'9 from a guy locally. Most my boards are 29-31ltr range and the board he's got is sitting right there at 31 ltrs. For reference I'm 5'11 at 157lbs.
How does the CF 2050 compare? Thanks.
Great to see you on the Foil Drive. Having Josh & Ben giving you tips will shorten your learning curve. One tip I picked up from Ben was to trace the water surface when it's choppy.
great video and sharing, many Thanks, i am trying to buy the Macro air inflatable board, but struggle on the size or length (4'7/80 L vs 5'3" 110L) whether which is best choice, for a newb as me, my weight is 60kg 1.65m tall, as my preference is movability and playability on the water, for the the carry backpack size is huge, not very nice for trevally locally or oversea trip. hope you can share me some experience in handling this and selection ways. Many Thanks
Can you film a video using different Armstrong foils with Foildrive? Looks like you were using an MA?
Yes, more Armstrong… foil drive ok too, but add Armstrong in other topics… thank you 😁🤙🏽
I have been Foil Driving on the HA line. In this video I’m on the 1180. I used that for learning and pumping. Also done a couple downwinders on the 1180. Depending on the size, I’m riding the HA1080 and 980. I like the HA for the extra glide and efficiency. The MA will work better for newer foilers and for the breach recovery.
Let’s go
890 is a sweet spot as do-it-all foil for an epic range of conditions. 990 has too much span and better only for those who have lightwind as main focus.
990 being my go to. It works pretty well in small waves. And yes, it works really well in lightwind that we get a lot in FL.
how is adx in comparison to strike or d-unit?
How would the FCS 2 Machado Seaside quads do on this board? I’m about 6’3 175 pounds, for summer waves, riding it at 5’10.
Good interview.Aloha,Cody!
Is this at Watermen's????
Yes it is, we hope to see you there. The tech talk is open to all, but guests at Watermen's will have access to testing all the gear listed here throughout the weekend: www.realwatersports.com/blogs/news/armstrong-weekend-at-watermen-s-retreat
I have a north nova V3 6mtr that is for light wind great . What sizes would you get if i wanted to invest in novas for stronger winds 35mph max ! . I would be on a budget so would this be all the wings to 3.5 ! Or could i go 6mtr 4.2mtr then one smaller for high wind days .
Trip you should have discussed the bottom contours and rocker on this board
You're right man, this one is from 8 years ago and definitely is not up to par with our current videos. We do have a slightly new Padillac review, this one we shot with Jon Pyzel himself so there's a little more detail to it: ua-cam.com/video/iM1_0TFIolo/v-deo.html
i'm wearing my zipless 3/4 now the third year, surfing South Africa. It keeps me warm in 12°C cold water. I have no issues so far. This wetsuit is very flexible, feels like a second skin, easy to put on and off, and i dries quickly.
Radius or ci pro?
Interesting review on this timeless model. But now, there is... the Pisces, which is described as a kind of "RNF 2.0". Do you think this new board has the same qualities ? Is it so versatile ? Does it handle better waves as well as the RNF (which is not just good for grovelling in mushy waves, as we can see here...) ?
Where your foil boost ?
In this light of air, power assist doesn’t really work that well and is pretty technical. This rigging is the best that I have found for light air winging.
We can't wait!! See you guys there!!
Awesome video guys 🤙🏽
If you are not sure about the right size, just buy 4 or 5 boards.
